A couple of weeks ago, I participated in the Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC).  It's a fun activity and if you've never done it, I highly recommend it.
  1. It's FUN!
  2. It's a great family activity that kids will LOVE to do along with you.
  3. The counts you submit help scientists make important determinations about a species' population status, the effects of our changing climate, and more.
While I counted the birds that came to my feeders, I took some photos, which I'm posting below. During the count, I took a couple of short trips: one to the Dunkirk Harbor to find the Greater White-fronted Goose - and a second trip back out to Medina to show my son the Short Eared Owls.

I didn't submit counts for those trips, but I DID keep track of the number of hawks I saw for both trips!  It's amazing how many hawks, especially Red-tails are around. I never found the GWFG, but Tom and I did get to see several SEOWs; we really enjoyed the shows they put on!
