Chirps and Cheeps

A couple of outings this past week took me to the Batavia Waste Water Treatment Plant and out to the Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge.  One bird I was hoping for was an American Golden Plover.  No luck on that bird, but it was nice to get out and get some unexpected views of some Wilson's Snipes.

A young Marsh Wren entertained me for a little while at Goose Pond before the snipes became visible. A Sora came out and foraged in the open for a little while too.  That was a real treat; Celeste and I watched him for a little while through her scope but I never managed to get a photo of him.

Shorebirds were plentiful and we enjoyed sorting through the dowitchers, peeps, and sandpipers.  As we were leaving, we got some nice views of a young Eastern Meadowlark. Usually, they just fly by and plunk down into the grass out of sight - but this guy kept his head up and we got some nice looks (and even a couple of photos!).
