Two New Yard Birds

Checking the yard for fall migrants again today was very worthwhile. We had about a dozen warblers come through for a total of 6 species: Magnolia, Black-and-white, Chestnut-sided, Hooded, American Redstart, and Ovenbird.

Other migrants included a Gray-cheeked Thrush (a yard-first for us!), a Wood Thrush, a Warbling Vireo (another yard-first!), and another Scarlet Tanager - this time a young one. We also had a flock of about 14 House Sparrows come through the yard. We hardly ever see them (thankfully), and I was quite happy to see they kept on going!

I'm beginning to look for some other travelers, such as Fox, Lincoln, White-crowned, and White-throated Sparrows. Ruby-crowned and Golden-crowned Kinglets should be coming through soon too - but I have yet to see either of those as well. Hopefully soon - keep your eyes peeled!
