  A Young Pileated Visits

Yesterday, I heard the cry of "our" Pileated Woodpecker as she is her habit when she arrives at our feeders.  For some unknown reason, she always announces her presence as she flies in and checks out the suet.

It had been a while since I had taken any photos of her so I quickly grabbed my camera and snuck around to the side of the house and all-sneaky-like got a few of her at the suet. Suddenly, she flew off to the woods where I saw a young Pileated waiting for her.  It was so cute!  My son joined me and we both watched in fascination as the mom fed its young one. I got a few poorly lit shots of the event and through some openings in the trees.  And, in spite of their poor quality, I'm posting them because the story they tell is rather heartwarming.
