I saw my first Purple Finch today, a lone female. She was grouped in with several House Finches and American Goldfinches. I was so excited to see something "different" at my feeders! At first, I thought she was a Song Sparrow, but her finch-like beak and distinctive eyebrow made me look for confirmation that she was, indeed, a Purple Finch. And sure enough, a bird-expert friend identified her.  Unfortunately, her male counterpart was nowhere to be seen, but I'll keep watching for him!

A Red-tailed Hawk soared overheard, scattering the flock at the feeders. Fortunately, he never came closer.
