Chirps and Cheeps

Another gorgeous day got me out from behind my desk to go birding. We're into November now and, as I was putting on my now respectably broken-in hiking boots, I rationalized that I had better take advantage of this day!  So, off I went to Bird Song, a beautiful habitat close by our home in Orchard Park.

I no sooner got my gear together, choosing to take the tripod this time, when I began to get "my ears on". Wow, lots of birds were here today! The sun was at such an angle, I put my Dupont baseball cap on - not very feminine, but it really does help lessen the sun's glare.

I saw lots today - the biggest treat being several Golden-crowned Kinglets and Ruby-crowned Kinglets. I got some very nice looks at them. The pictures turned out a little poorer than I expected, bad lighting, but I was still very happy to have had those up close and personal encounters.  I intend to get back real soon for more photos!

I saw and heard several Cedar Waxwings, American Robins, an Eastern Bluebird, a Blue Jay, a Northern Cardinal, a couple of House Sparrows, a Red-breasted Nuthatch, a Dark-eyed Junco, a Red-winged Blackbird, and a pond full of Canada Geese - a truly rewarding trip! Woodpeckers of any type were surprisingly absent, though.
