  TWO Life-listers! A Black-throated Green Warbler and a Blue-headed Vireo

Today I had TWO life list additions! A striking Black-throated Green Warbler stopped by along with a Blue-headed Vireo.  Unfortunately, I didn't realize the Blue-headed Vireo was a life-list addition until a couple of days later when my friend, Marilyn (owner of the Blasdel Wild Birds Unlimited Store), confirmed his identity for me, so I didn't enjoy his presence as much as I would have liked.  Maybe I'll get another chance to see one this fall.

I did, however, learn a big difference between vireos and warblers from Marilyn. Apparently, vireos have beaks that are a bit heavier looking with not such a sharp point at the end. They're also not as "perky" moving amongst the branches and are a little heavier looking in build. I always wondered what the difference was - thanks, Marilyn!

The Black-throated Green Warbler, on the other hand, was so striking, I KNEW he was a lifer! What a mixed bag of color and design that little guy is! From his olive on his back to the streaked breast and yellow head - and the blue/black/white wing bars, he was totally mesmerizing! I truly enjoyed a nice, long visit and managed a few mediocre shots of him to boot.
