Chirps and Cheeps

Tonight I went up to Sinking Ponds on a whim - just to see what I could see.  It's funny how you just never know...

I was quite excited to see not one, not two, but at east FOUR Belted Kingfishers flying around the pond diving for food and performing antics.  I suspect the pair I saw earlier in the season successfully bred and fledged at least two young.  There was only one female in the group and I never got a nice photo of her - but I did get some of "the boys" that I'm posting.

Another treat was watching a Green Heron slowly edge out of some cattails along the pond to my right. It took only a short while before it caught a nice sized fish.  It took longer for it to swallow it than it did to hunt and catch it!

Far across the pond, I also saw another Double-crested Cormorant. This time, it was a juvenile.  He/she never came very close, so all I got was a rather poor photo of the teenager.

A family of Wood Ducks was enjoying an evening swim and I got only some poor photos of them as the light was waning by the time they appeared.
