My son and I stopped by the Hamburg Hawkwatch after work today hoping to see some migratory raptor flights. Not much was
happening at the late afternoon time we were there, though, and in spite of the
slightly southerly winds, we were told the day hadn't produced much at all. Some
Rough-leggeds and Broad-wings had flown very high overhead, but the majority
of the flights consisted of Turkey Vultures. And only a few Turkey Vultures is all we saw during
our short time there. Tomorrow, the wind conditions are supposed to be more favorable so I hope to try
again.
It's been another week since I've seen the baby Great Horned Owls, so we rode over to see how they were doing. They're getting BIG! And one had very bravely climbed out of the nest and was working out his wings while momma and sibling sat safely tucked in their nest. I don't think it will be long before the youngsters fledge.
After Tom left to get ready for the Sabres game, I decided to go over to Lakeview Cemetery and do a little hiking around. I didn't see the Brown Thrasher I was hoping to find, but I did see my
FOY Blue-gray Gnatcatcher! They're so cute! I also found a few Ruby-crowned Kinglets, a Pileated Woodpecker, Downy Woodpecker, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Black-capped Chickadees, American Goldfinch, Tufted Titmice, American Tree Sparrow, Chipping Sparrows, a Song Sparrow, Northern Cardinals, American Robins, and some Wild Turkeys.
