Chirps and Cheeps

I took a quick walk through Delaware Park on my lunch break to look for the Vesper's Sparrow Alec Humann found in the early in the morning. I wasn't able to find that bird - work got in the way of me getting out there sooner, which was unfortunate, because by the time I got there, the park was full of people and unleashed dogs running a muck.

The Rusty Blackbirds had probably taken off as well as the Fox Sparrow he found, but I did find my First of Year Ruby-crowned Kinglets and I enjoyed getting out in the warm, fresh air.

All 3 of the grebes we most often get to see in our region were out on the pond: Red-necked Grebe, Horned Grebe, and a Pied-billed Grebe. I saw one female Cowbird down there and the several fly-bys by a Belted Kingfisher is always sure to put a smile on my face. I saw one White-throated Sparrow and a couple of Brown Creepers were entertaining too. Other than that, only the expected birds were seen: numerous American Robins, Song Sparrows, Red-winged Blackbirds, Downy Woodpeckers, and Juncos, and then one American Goldfinch.
