We had a surprise Pine Siskin visit on the 13th of May - and today, we had a second visit! I was working at my desk and heard a very buzzy "zzzzzeeeet" call out the window. I looked around for a siskin but didn't find it. I chalked it up to a mistake and went back to work. Later on, after dinner, I glanced at the goldfinches on the feeders and one made me look twice. Yep, it was a Pine Siskin - most likely the one I heard call earlier in the day.
These finches were not supposed to drop down into our area this year due to an abundant pine cone crop up north, where they were forecast to stay. I guess my visitor didn't get the memo!
