  Butterflies and Moths

As time has gone along, my passion for birds has not waned like I thought it might.  In fact, it's only grown!  BUT - I've now seen all of the normally occurring birds here in WNY and my time isn't taken up with "chasing" new birds much any more.  Subsequently, during the summer months, I find myself distracted by the brightly "painted" butterflies and moths that flit around my yard and bird outings.  I'm beginning to develop a keen interest and enjoyment in God's handiwork in yet another chunk of taxononomy, those species that fall within the order of Lepidoptera (butterflies and moths).  Before now, I never fully appreciated nor took the time to study these delicate beauties.

Although I doubt I'll ever delve into "leps" to the near obsessive extent that I have for birds, I DO want to track and list what I see, accompanied by whatever photos I can get. I'm already finding that photographing these fast-moving, fickle-winged creatures is much more challenging than I imagined!  But try, I will! I hope you enjoy my beginning "newbie" findings...
