For years, I’ve been scanning the juncos that come to my home feeders in hopes that one of the more rare-for-our-area subspecies would pay me a visit. Today, all the close scrutiny of all the subtle varieties and patterns of the whites, grays, blacks, and tinges of oranges and pinks finally found a noteworthy junco! A female Oregon Junco was foraging under the feeder and showed off a define dark “bib”. Sweet!
I managed a few photos through the window to document the momentous (for me) occasion and posted them to a junco Facebook group for confirmation. I’m happy to report that my instincts were correct and that she is, indeed, my long-hoped-for Oregon Junco.
