Thankfully, this winter has had very little snow. I'm still on crutches but with a little assistance from my indulging husband, I'm able to bundle up on our deck with my binoculars and camera and watch for any birds that might land in the yard or fly overhead. The weather, although still cold, has been very kind! Here are a few nice sights I've had while waiting to be able to resume normal activities...
Pileated Woodpecker, a regular here...
This Mourning Dove gave me a nice pose so I obliged and took its photo...
This was from inside - a male Northern Cardinal attacking his reflection. True breeding behavior - perceiving a competitor.
Red-tailed Hawk
Our first yard spring American Robin
My First of Year (FOY) Turkey Vulture
One of my yard favorites - a female Purple Finch and FOY
A Cooper's Hawk with breeding fluffy undertail coverts
A cute, little Red-breasted Nuthatch
Red-bellied Woodpecker (male)
Our first male Purple Finch - such a gorgeous bird!
A little flock of Common Mergansers flew over - a first for my yard.
A pair of Eastern Bluebirds keep checking out our nest boxes. Fingers crossed!
A handsome male Eastern Bluebird
This adult Bald Eagle was fun to have fly over!
My husband drove me up to the Hamburg Hawkwatch where I saw and watched for raptors. This Northern Harrier was a fun sight!
Back home, I had a nice adult Red-shouldered Hawk flyover
How fun to have a Common Loon fly over!
