  Juvenile American Robin

I was very puzzled by an interesting looking bird the other day.  I thought he might be a lifer in that I didn't think I had ever seen his species before. He had been flitting amongst the berry bushes in the woods on the side of our property for a few days - and was just beyond the reach of a good look through my binoculars.  I could see he had some rufus coloring, an eye ring, and some streaking on his breast.  I thought maybe a Wood Thrush?

Today, the mystery was solved! A juvenile American Robin came onto the lawn and answered the question of my mystery berry bird.  These immature Robins really appear quite different in this phase as they transition from juvenile to adult.  We sometimes refer to our human teenage phase as the "awkward phase" - I think it applies to Robins too!

Here are a few close-ups for you...
