Chirps and Cheeps

This misty, rainy morning, I decided to try for the American White Pelican that was seen by several birders yesterday at Tifft Nature Preserve.  No joy with that one, unfortunately.  That poor bird must be way off course because it's not typically seen in WNY at all, even during migration. I hope he makes its way to others of its kind.

My early morning walk did bring a life-lister though: a Green Heron!  What a cool bird (do I say that often?)!  Actually, I saw a pair of them.  I'm not sure how the males and females differ yet - if even at all.

Did you know the Green Heron is one of the few tool using birds?  It will actually drop a little "bait" on top of the water and snap at the fish that come, attracted to the bait.  That's very cool!

Also seen were: Canada Goose, Cedar Waxwing, Yellow Warbler, Great Blue Heron, American Crow, Song Sparrow, Red-winged Blackbird, Ring-billed Gull, Mallard, American Robin, Tree Swallow, and I HEARD a beautiful songster that sang a three-note song that was most intriguing, but never identified.
