Orchard Oriole at Tifft and Grasshopper Sparrows in Dunkirk

I ran into Dean DiTomasso at Tifft Nature Preserve today who told me of an Orchard Oriole he found out by the parking area. It probably took close to a couple of hours - and thanks to Dean, I finally got to lay eyes on the young male.

This bird had a unique call that I would never have recognized on my own. Dean's sharp ears picked it up from quite a distance and he eventually located the brash songster in a small stand of pines up on the mounds. The bird finally flew to a more advantageous spot for our cameras and we both got some nice shots of this guy.

After that, I left for Dunkirk, hoping to find a Grasshopper Sparrow, where they are known to summer.  Sure enough, I found a couple along the chain linked fence that surrounds the airport.
