Celeste and I had no birds in Allegany County and so we decided to make a big day of it yesterday, targeting some of the birding hotspots for that county. We tallied 77 species by the end of the day, ending with a Ruffed Grouse on Peacock Hill Rd.

We came upon a group of Cliff Swallows. Fledglings were lined up along a power line and the adults were busy hawking insects and bringing them in for their young. It was quite a sight and it was in habitat that I was unfamiliar with for this species. We had fun watching them for quite awhile before moving on with our quest for more species.

There is great and variable habitat throughout the county and we already want to go back!
