I LOVE warblers! I'm not sure if I've mentioned that before. I guess they're my absolute favorites in the bird families. I think I love them mostly because they're so small, cute, and probably because they're more uncommon to our area up here in the northeast.
Our wet spring brought many warbler sightings to this new birder and I was enthralled! I later learned, to my GREAT dismay, that lots of these little jewels were only passing through on their way further north. I was so bummed to hear that. As summer approached, I really lamented that I wouldn't get to see these guys again until fall.
Time passes quickly, however, and some early migrants are already coming through! I've seen a few life-list additions already in the past couple of weeks! I already posted about the American Redstarts, and Hooded Warblers, but in the last few days I've also seen the following:
- Philadelphia Vireo (life list)
- Black and White Warbler (life list)
- Magnolia Warbler
- Blue-winged Warbler
- Black-throated Blue Warbler (life list)
- Yellow Warbler
So, here we are at the end of summer already, but warblers are back "in season"! I only wish I could've caught all that I've seen on camera. As it is, I only managed to catch a few poor shots of a female Hooded Warbler, who seem to have taken up residence here for a lot of the summer. Her male counterpart, although I've seen him many times now, continues to elude the lens of my camera! I can see him right now, as I'm writing this, as a matter of fact.
