I decided to flip-flop my recent birding pattern by going out early today instead of in the later afternoon since I've been missing the morning singing. Also, I suspected today might be a good day with some new migrants and oh yes, it was! Tifft was full of new arrivals - and I really enjoyed that mixed chorus of warblers, tanagers, flycatchers, and others.
Bill Watson and I saw and/or heard eighteen species of warblers, including a CERULEAN!, 3 male Scarlet Tanagers, a photogenic Philadelphia Vireo, many Red-eyed Vireos, 3 Warbling Vireos, a Wood Thrush, 2 Brown Thrashers, several flycatchers (mostly Willows, but also 2 Eastern Wood-pewees, 3 Eastern Kingbirds, and my favorite, a Yellow-bellied Flycatcher), and 4 Lincoln Sparrows.
There was also a Greater Scaup at the south end of the preserve that Bill noticed. This bird wasn't very close to any large body of water, so what was he doing there??? A mystery that may never be solved...

Very poor shot of a Canada Warbler (early morning is great - but tough on lighting!)
Greater Scaup - very out of place here!
What an interesting variety! And what a lovely way to start your day. Sounds like it was a successful trip.
