Chirps and Cheeps

I had a fabulous four days with two GREAT and fun friends at McGee Marsh this past week!  Karen Vizzi, having been to the big event a few times before, was our capable guide. She showed Karen Lewis and I a fantastic time and we saw an amazing assortment of birds together. 

I think one of our best experiences was watching the American Woodcocks display in the backyard of our cabin one evening - and almost getting buzzed by a Common Nighthawk!

Warblers were everywhere: from the beautiful and elegant Prothonotary to the rather plain but elusive Orange-crowned. A normally secretive Mourning Warbler gave some fantastic views one day - and was a life bird for Karen Lewis.  We even found a rare Worm-eating Warbler and had the fun of giving the information to some other birders and then seeing it get texted out to their alert system - cool!

I got a life bird at the last hour of our last day: a Black-necked Stilt!  We had to scope this guy as it was far out on a mudflat - but the scoped views of this long, pink legged bird were awesome!

What a great time, great birds, and great company!  Euchre will never be the same!
