  A Carolina Wren

A Carolina Wren paid our feeders a visit early yesterday morning. My 5 year old granddaughter and I enjoyed watching it from our kitchen window as it checked out all the different feeding stations. The big seed cake seemed to be its preference, although the deck floor held its attention for a long time too.  It's been a long time since we've had a Carolina Wren here. I didn't see it today, but I'm hopeful it's going to stick around.

I took a quick jaunt over to Sinking Ponds around dinnertime to see if there was any new waterfowl, but I only found Canada Geese, Ring-necked Ducks, and Hooded Mergansers. I found several Song Sparrows, a Blue Jay, 2 Northern Cardinals, and several Dark-eyed Juncos. Song Sparrows seem to have flooded the area this past week. I've got 3 coming regularly to the feeders at home every day now too.  I love having them back - and I'm really looking forward to the House Wrens and Gray Cat Birds returning too.

I've been on the lookout for a Pine Warbler since we had one at our feeders last year on April 2nd and on April 13th the year before. So far, no luck - and I keep looking on eBird for reports of them in the area, but no luck there either.

I've heard a couple of reports of Eastern Meadowlarks and Yellow-rumped Warblers... spring is in the air and excitement is building!

You take some great pictures. Poked around on your site, alot of nice pictures and good information. I love the Carolina Wren, I think they will build a nest anywhere. We have them build a nest every year in our newspaper box. I got a picture of a Yellow-rumped Warbler last week. Check it out on my blog. Michaels Woodcraft and Blog. thanks for sharing, Michael
