It's a very snowy day today, complete with white-outs, thunder and lightning, and near blizzard conditions. The only good thing about this kind of a day is that it brings the feeder birds to our little bistro! And with all the snow we've been getting lately, I've been refilling the feeders daily!
So, today I cleaned off our windows, got my camera ready, topped off the feeders with black oil sunflower seeds, nyjer thistle, and fresh suet - and got myself positioned to photograph and enjoy our visitors.
I saw many Northern Cardinals, a few Blue Jays (they can be real feeder bullies!), many American Goldfinches, a pair of House Finches, several Downy Woodpeckers, a pair of Red-bellied Woodpeckers, 3 Mourning Doves, a pair each of Red-breasted Nuthatches and White-breasted Nuthatches, several Black-capped Chickadees and Dark-eyed Juncos, 1 American Tree Sparrow, and a few of my all-time favorite, the Tufted Titmouse.
I spent a couple of enjoyable hours at the window and it was really nice to "focus" on our feeder birds again - it's been too long since I've done this! I missed a few of the regulars today, though. I never saw a Purple Finch nor a Hairy Woodpecker. And lately, I haven't seen any Northern Flickers, Pileated Woodpeckers, or Carolina Wrens around the house either. I miss these guys and hope they'll be showing up soon!
